Cybergenetics TrueAllele 189 billion DNA match testimony helps convict Blairsville PA killer

Indiana, PA

Cybergenetics Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Mark Perlin testified on March 12, 2009 at the Pennsylvania homicide trial of state trooper Kevin Foley, accused of slaying dentist John Yelenic. DNA mixture evidence was found under Dr. Yelenic's fingernails, containing the victim and a trace amount of someone else. The crime lab's simplified human review reported a 13 thousand DNA match statistic. However, TrueAllele® computer interpretation inferred a more accurate statistic of 189 billion, matching Mr. Foley to the fingernail evidence. On March 18, the Indiana County jury convicted Mr. Foley of first degree murder.
