Estate of Eftekhar Entezari-Afshar v Viktor Pell
Civil: Defendant found liable in civil wrongful death lawsuit
Crime | On May 1, 1989, a man shot and killed Eftekhar "Effie" Entezari in the parking lot of her apartment building. In 1990, a criminal court convicted the woman’s husband, Mohammad "Mike" Entezari, of her murder. |
Evidence | The victim’s sweater was submitted for DNA testing. |
DNA | A private laboratory generated DNA data from the sweater. |
Match | The DNA lab concluded that the evidence mixture data were inconclusive. |
TrueAllele | TrueAllele developed informative genotypes from the previously "inconclusive" DNA mixture data. Comparing genotypes, the computer linked the victim’s sweater to defendant Pell with a match statistic of 120 thousand. |
Cybergenetics | On November 1, 2024, Cybergenetics chief scientist Dr. Mark Perlin testified before a Clark County civil court jury about the TrueAllele DNA results. |
Outcome | On November 5, 2024, the jury found Viktor Pell liable in a civil wrongful death lawsuit. |
