Estate of Eftekhar Entezari-Afshar v Viktor Pell

Civil: Defendant found liable in civil wrongful death lawsuit

Crime On May 1, 1989, a man shot and killed Eftekhar "Effie" Entezari in the parking lot of her apartment building. In 1990, a criminal court convicted the woman’s husband, Mohammad "Mike" Entezari, of her murder.
Evidence The victim’s sweater was submitted for DNA testing.
DNA A private laboratory generated DNA data from the sweater.
Match The DNA lab concluded that the evidence mixture data were inconclusive.
TrueAllele TrueAllele developed informative genotypes from the previously "inconclusive" DNA mixture data. Comparing genotypes, the computer linked the victim’s sweater to defendant Pell with a match statistic of 120 thousand.
Cybergenetics    On November 1, 2024, Cybergenetics chief scientist Dr. Mark Perlin testified before a Clark County civil court jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome On November 5, 2024, the jury found Viktor Pell liable in a civil wrongful death lawsuit.
