Cybergenetics gives Sherlock Holmes and DNA likelihood ratio match statistic talk at American Academy of Forensic Sciences meeting

Chicago, IL

Cybergenetics Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Mark Perlin gave a scientific presentation on "Sherlock Holmes and the DNA Likelihood Ratio" at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences meeting in Seattle. His talk described the reasoning of Mr. Holmes in Chapter Four of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Dr. Perlin used this detective story to illustrate concepts of conditional probability, comparing alternative hypotheses, combining independent evidence, and making decisions based on uncertain evidence. The principles are similar to those used in forensic DNA evidence interpretation, and in Cybergenetics TrueAllele® computer system.
