Cybergenetics TrueAllele DNA evidence helps convict Virginia man of homicide
Richmond, VA
Otis Madison was convicted of shooting 25 year old John Winston IV, and leaving him to die in a parking lot. The gunman had dropped a plastic bag containing pills as he fled the scene. Cybergenetics scientist Dr. Mark Perlin testified at the trial that a DNA match between Otis Madison and the plastic bag was over a billion times more probable than chance. The jury found Mr. Madison guilty of first-degree murder and a related firearm charge, and recommended that he serve 35 years in prison.
