TrueAllele helps convict Long Island man of sexual abuse
Long Island, NY
Forty-one year old Rene Hernandez was charged in May of 2017 for sexually assaulting a 9-year old girl staying at his Long-Island home.
Detectives swabbed the girl’s left cheek and left ear for DNA evidence. After initial DNA analysis was complicated by multiple sources, the samples were sent to Cybergenetics to evaluate the mixtures. Cybergenetics’ forensic analyst Beatriz Pujols processed the evidence through the TrueAllele casework system and testified last Thursday, citing match statistics in the quadrillions that implicated Hernandez’s involvement in the crime.
On Friday, Hernandez was found guilty on two counts of sexual abuse; he faces sentencing in May.
