Cybergenetics Dr. Ria David honored by Strong Women Strong Girls

Technology company's president awarded for commitment to uplifting women

PITTSBURGH, PA, August 8, 2016

Cybergenetics Dr. Ria David was selected as the 2017 Strong Awards Professional Woman honoree. Presented by Strong Women Strong Girls (SWSG), this award celebrates a female community leader "whose work has demonstrated a commitment to empowering women and girls throughout the greater Pittsburgh region."

Dr. David empowers women through crime-solving computers, scientific internships, and campus initiatives. Her company takes on the most challenging DNA evidence, and interprets it with the TrueAllele® computer. TrueAllele analysis critically assisted in cases from Louisiana drug crimes to New Hampshire homicides, and from California serial rapes to Indiana exonerations.

"I am honored to be recognized by and identified with SWSG and their wonderful work of supporting young women," said Dr. David.

At Cybergenetics, Dr. David involves college students (largely women) in the justice process. Forensic interns use the TrueAllele computer to help solve real crimes. These are often violent crimes against women—including the double murder of Pittsburghers Susan and Sarah Wolfe.

Dr. David said a top 2017 project was her "Take Back the Power" sexual assault awareness program, held on local campuses. "Cybergenetics shows students that more can be done for victims of sexual assault," said Dr. David. "More can be done to solve cases, and take back the power, when DNA evidence is preserved and thoroughly interpreted."

SWSG will honor Dr. Ria David and other awardees at a breakfast ceremony on August 18, 2017 at the Doubletree by Hilton Downtown Pittsburgh. Tickets are available on their website.
