Polar Bear
Polar Bear

If it makes you happy then I will agree
That polar bears do not exist as far as I can see
What other affirmation do you need from me
Of my admiration for your philosophy
I'm happy to concur with everything you say
I'll quote it on the Internet posting straight away
For you're the master bureaucrat whom we must obey
If you deny the polar bear I'm with you all the way.
No reason to believe in what the data tell
Instead we self deceive and hope things work out well
It's easier to dream the world we want to see
Replacing what has been with what we hope will be
What harm could ever come from fanciful illusion?
Global smoking gun, concocting some conclusion
But then a bothersome factual intrusion
Erases what we won, creating such confusion.
Hulking past my window a beast loomed fierce and white
I saw it flash a razor claw, its teeth were gleaming bright
It cannot be a polar bear hankering for a fight
You say those creatures don't exist – I know you're always right
(Polar bear isn't there; polar bear found nowhere)
Fanatics never get it, saner people do
Scientists experiment to render what is true
Well something big and white with fur confounded what you knew
That bloody-minded polar bear sank his fangs in you.
(Polar bear we're so scared; polar bear so beware)
Staring at a polar bear who's hungering after you
Still insist they don't exist but you're their favorite food.
