Sweet potato silencer analyzed for touch DNA

Crime On February 27, 2011, Barnstable police found Todd Lampley bleeding from gunshot wounds in a home and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Evidence Investigators collected a sweet potato used as an apparent gun silencer as evidence.
DNA The Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory generated DNA data from a sweet potato swab.
Match The laboratory was unable to come to a conclusion regarding the contributors to the mixture.
TrueAllele The TrueAllele computer separated the four-person mixture and linked the evidence to a suspect in the case with a match statistic over ten thousand. This evidence corroborated the Commonwealth’s case against defendant Curtis Collins.
Cybergenetics    On May 15, 2025, Cybergenetics analyst Jennifer Bracamontes testified before a Barnstable jury about the TrueAllele DNA results.
Outcome On May 22, 2025, the jury acquitted Mr. Collins of murder.
